The Donahue Institute's international program, the Civic Initiative, is finishing up a very busy summer of in-person programming through several exchange programs. Since June, they've welcomed 125 people from Algeria, Angola, Argentina, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Cote D’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Jordan, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritania, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Each program has focused on leadership, public policy, community service and cultural experiences. Many of the participants have also traveled to Boston, New York City and Washington, D.C. besides local sights in western Massachusetts. All programs are funded by the U.S. Department of State. They also worked with Meridian International and IREX to run some of these programs. They will have one more program from the Middle and North Africa this fall.
